Mallam O. Takes the Helm: Ecobank Sierra Leone Appoints Esteemed Academic Leader as Chairman

Ecobank Sierra Leone, Limited, is excited to announce the appointment of Professor Osman Alimamy Sankoh, DSc. COR. as Chairman of its Board of Directors, effective November 2025.

Widely known as Mallam O., Professor Sankoh is a distinguished statistician, epidemiologist, and academic leader whose career spans over three decades, encompassing national governance, international research leadership, and academia. His appointment marks a significant milestone for the Bank as it looks to bolster its strategic vision and enhance its impact in the financial services sector.

Before his official appointment, Professor Sankoh served as the Acting Chairman of the Board from September 2024. where he provided steady leadership that guided the Bank through transitional phases. He also chaired both the Board Governance and Risk Sub-Committees, in which he played a vital part in strengthening board effectiveness and ensuring adherence to regulatory compliance, critical aspects for maintaining institutional resilience in today's dynamic market.
