Nothing Left for the Nation to Give. The Authorities are asking “Sierra Leoneans Have Faith in God”

Instead of offering concrete help, leaders are turning to religious encouragement.

A newspaper vendor was photographed on Independence Day holding a newspaper with the headline “Sierra Leoneans Have Faith in God.” The image was taken in front of the Bank of Sierra Leone.

It’s like people asking for food or jobs and being told to simply pray—something that can feel inadequate, dismissive, even insulting in a time of crisis. Faith alone is not a policy; it doesn't fill empty stomachs or pay bills, especially when people are already tired and frustrated.

It is the African man himself who is the enemy of African progress and future!

Sierra Leone is beyond fatigued. This is what corruption and reckless spending on flashy non-essentials have wrought—palaces, foreign trips, and cronies' pockets stuffed while hospitals crumble and schools stay shut. The nation's broke because the elite siphoned it dry, and now they dodge accountability with Bible verses.

At some point, we must confront the role we play—yes, even the African man himself as the enemy of African progress—and stop blaming only the system. We need accountability, action, and honest leadership, not empty comfort disguised as answers. We must confront the culture of excuses that keeps holding us back. Salone deserves better: a future where faith inspires work, not replaces it.

Bridging Critique to Collective Mercy

That newspaper headline challenges us beyond frustration—it's a call to the promise in 2 Chronicles 7:14: "If my people, which are called by my name, shall humble themselves, and pray, and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways; then will I hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin, and will heal their land."

What if this Independence Day plea isn't deflection, but an invitation for everyone—leaders, elites, and citizens—to repent, bind corruption's chains, and loose real renewal?

Father of All Nations, on this 65th Independence Anniversary of Sierra Leone, we come before You not with empty celebration, but with a humble plea for Mercy.

We confess the struggles of our economy, the decay in our infrastructure, and the challenges in our health and schools. We ask that Your mercy prevail over judgment and that Your grace bypass our past failures.

In the name of Jesus, I bind the "Spirit of Perpetual Gestation" and the "Spirit of Economic Hemorrhage" over the land of Sierra Leone. I arrest every force of political stagnation and systemic corruption that has held the nation’s progress in chains. I silence the "Spirit of Despair" that tells the citizens that change is impossible.

I loose the "Spirit of Divine Order" in the corridors of power. I loose "Resurrection Power" over the hospitals, the classrooms, and the marketplaces of the nation. I loose a "New Blueprint of Resilience" into the minds of leaders and innovators, that 65 years may become a turning point from survival to thriving.

Lord, let Your light shine upon the "Lion Mountains" once more. Let this anniversary mark the death of old cycles and the resurrection of a cohesive, prosperous, and God-fearing nation.

In the name of Jesus Christ, we pray. Amen.

A prayer asking God to show mercy to Sierra Leone.
