Shockwaves from the Diaspora: Sierra Leoneans Face Grave Criminal Charges in the United States

Former Presidential Security Officer and Another Sierra Leonean National Arrested by ICE in Separate Violent Crime Cases.

In a series of troubling developments reported by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), multiple Sierra Leonean nationals are now in U.S. custody facing serious violent crime allegations — including rape and murder — sparking concern both in the United States and back home in Sierra Leone.

ICE confirmed that Ibrahim George Kallon, a former close protection officer assigned to First Lady Fatima Bio and President Julius Maada Bio, was taken into custody in Philadelphia on February 11. Kallon is facing rape-related charges, including involuntary deviate sexual intercourse, sexual assault, and false imprisonment in Pennsylvania.

Once part of President Bio’s inner circle, Ibrahim George Kallon’s ICE arrest ignites outrage — while fellow Sierra Leonean Abdul Jalloh stands accused in a fatal Virginia stabbing that’s jolted both nations.

According to ICE, Kallon had reportedly been undergoing correctional officer training in Delaware County at the time the charges were filed. Sources indicate he had traveled to the U.S. as part of a presidential delegation attending a United Nations summit but allegedly declined to return to Sierra Leone thereafter.

On a personal note, Kallon is said to be friends with Fatima Bio’s eldest son, Mohammed.

Authorities stress that the charges remain allegations, and Kallon is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in a court of law.

In a separate case, 32-year-old Abdul Jalloh has been charged in connection with the fatal stabbing of 41-year-old Stephanie Minter in Fairfax County. Surveillance footage reportedly showed the two exiting a bus together shortly before the attack. Jalloh was later apprehended after a shoplifting complaint led authorities to link him to the homicide investigation.

ICE further confirmed that at least three individuals were arrested in February on violent crime charges, including rape, murder, kidnapping, and assault, with two of the cases involving Sierra Leonean nationals.

The developments have drawn intense public attention, particularly given Kallon’s reported former role within Sierra Leone’s presidential security apparatus.

Both cases remain under investigation.
